Establishing ethical standards for research studies has been a relatively recent addition to ASHA's Code of Ethics. What are some fundamental issues of concern in doing research that may have necessitated adding rules governing research into the ASHA Code of Ethics?

The laws in many states do not require speech pathologists working in the schools to be certified by ASHA (they don't need to have their CCCs). Are these non-certified SLPs bound by the ASHA Code of Ethics? What about school systems... are they bound by ASHA's Code of Ethics?
